Duy Nguyen

Duy Nguyen

(b.1989, Malaysia) is a Norwegian-Vietnamese visual artist, art director and photographer. Duy is also sometimes known under the photographer-name Vitaboy. He is currently based in Oslo, Norway.

As an artist, he mainly uses analog cameras and digital editing processes to subjectively explore how memories affects our personal and collective experiences. He then adds deeply personal layers to the process; like his upbringing as an immigrant, his dealings with cultural toxic-masculinity and his viewpoint on being neurodiverse.

In his most recent works; Duy thinks of his art practise as acts of performances where the photograph is the outcome of the artistic gesture, instead of an act of documentation. He sees these works as a reflections of his internal mind, rather than the reflection of the outside world.

In 2020 Duy transitioned from fashion photographer to being a full-time visual artist. He has since then exhibited at the Norwegian National Art Exhibition at Kunstnernes Hus, PH21 Gallery in Budapest, multiple group shows with Collective Oslo and more. For 2022 he has multiple group exhibitions lining up, one planned solo show and a 3-months artist residency at Leipzig International Art Programme in partnership with Goethe-Institut Norway.
